Ward Gets Another Start; Pitkanen Out

by Paul Branecky / Carolina Hurricanes
Cam Ward will make his 17th consecutive start in goal for the Hurricanes tonight against Dallas.  Ward is 6-1-0 in the second half of back-to-backs, with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage.

Ward has played a lot of games lately, but not all of them have been as strenuous as last night's contest in Chicago.  Recent wins against Calgary and Tampa Bay, to name a few, weren't quite as taxing due to the amount of protection given to him by the Hurricanes' offense.

Coach Paul Maurice said before leaving on the trip that the Washington game on Saturday was a possibility for Michael Leighton, although the team has three off days afterwards in which to rest.

Also, defenseman Joni Pitkanen will miss tonight's game with an upper-body injury.  Pitkanen took a big hit along the boards during last night's game in Chicago, causing him to leave the game halfway through the second period.
