RALEIGH, NC (October 13, 2000) – Ken Lehner, Vice President of Marketing Communications for the National Hockey League Carolina Hurricanes, announced today the team’s promotional schedule for the next four Hurricanes home games. The plans include a special partnership between Pepsi, the Carolina Hurricanes, and Wake County Public Schools in which Pepsi will donate $2 for every fan in attendance at the Hurricanes’ game against New Jersey to the Wake Education Partnership. The Hurricanes and the New Jersey Devils face-off on October 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

“It is a tremendous honor to work in conjunction with Pepsi to create an opportunity to help support the Wake County Public Schools,” said Lehner. “When this game sells out, schools will receive a check for over $37,000.”

The Hurricanes also announced that the Harris Teeter Family Night special has been extended to include the Devils game on October 27. Fans can purchase four upper level Hurricanes tickets, four hot dogs, and four Pepsis for just $64 (regular ticket price is $22 per ticket). The package is also available in the lower level at a price of $94 (regular price of $40 per ticket). In addition, all fans in attendance on October 27 will receive Team Calendars courtesy of Harris Teeter.

The Hurricanes also announced plans for their next home game, against the San Jose Sharks on October 24. The game has been deemed the “Battle of the Tech Titans” as the visitors from Silicon Valley take on the Research Triangle’s Hurricanes. Should the Hurricanes defeat the Sharks, a company with at least 20 people in attendance at the game will receive four roundtrip air tickets to Silicon Valley for a round of golf at Pebble Beach, overnight stay at Hotel D’Anza in downtown San Jose, brunch at Buck’s in Woodside, and dinner at Il Forniao in Palo Alto. The contest is sponsored by the Triangle Business Journal, the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, and Midway Airlines. If the Sharks defeat the Hurricanes, four Sharks fans will get to fly to North Carolina to play a round of golf at Pinehurst. The game against the Sharks also features a special performance by Jack the Chimp, star of the soon-to-be-released motion picture “MVP: Most Valuable Primate.” Jack the Chimp will skate on the ice during the second intermission.

The team also announced that due to the success of the Hurricanes’ Pre-game Party on Opening Night, the team will be holding another Tailgate Party on October 29, prior to the start of Carolina’s game against the St. Louis Blues. The party will again include food and beer specials in addition to a live band. The Hurricanes are also encouraging all fans to dress in costume for the team’s game on October 31 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Fans can trick-or-treat for candy at concession stands and the Hurricanes will be holding their own very special Halloween costume contest during the game. Intermission activities include the “Great Pumpkin Race” and a Pumpkin Toss.
