Tweetmail No. 117: Music, Team Finland & Website

by Michael Smith / Carolina Hurricanes
Hello and welcome to a weekly* feature on CarolinaHurricanes.com in which I take your Twitter questions about the Carolina Hurricanes or other assorted topics and answer them in mailbag form. Hopefully, the final product is insightful to some degree, and maybe we have some fun along the way.

* I say weekly, but #Tweetmail is going to take a month(ish) hiatus. Why, you ask? More on that in the final question below.

Before we get to that, more reader email!

Will there be a new goal song this year? – Doug D.

There are no plans to change the goal song heading into this season. Last year, the Hurricanes debuted Avicii’s “The Nights” – specifically the main riff that begins around the 48-second mark of the tune – as the new goal song, and you’ve probably also heard the full song echoing over PNC Arena’s sound system after a Hurricanes’ victory. Here’s to hearing it much, much more in 2016-17!

“Hey! Hey!”

That was indeed a fun addition to a few intermissions last season and good news! You’ll see more this year. Dates and more details surrounding those live intermission performances will be coming your way very soon, and I think you all will dig what we have planned.

Yes! Star Wars Night will return this season, and I have a date for you: Saturday, Jan. 14. More details on that night and other theme nights you might see pop up over the course of the 41-game home schedule will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, so stay tuned. As a related note, individual game tickets go on sale for the general public on Sept. 15.

Also, the “Rogue One” trailer? Whoa. I’m so ready for December.

It’s unfortunate that Sebastian Aho will miss the first few weeks of training camp, but the counterpoint of that is the unbelievable experience he’ll have as a 19-year-old competing in the World Cup of Hockey, a tournament that will feature the best the world has to offer in terms of hockey talent. What he’ll miss in instruction time with the Hurricanes he’ll gain in game action on NHL ice in a highly competitive environment. And, as you pointed out, he’ll be on a team with new Hurricane Teuvo Teravainen. Perhaps the tournament will spark a bit of chemistry that the pair can bring back to Raleigh.

The Aho-Teravainen Team Finland combo highlights what to look for from a Canes-centric point of view. Of course, there’s also Bill Peters behind the bench as an assistant coach for the stacked Team Canada Squad. Elsewhere, I’m just excited to see how this tournament will play out. Competition always gets intriguing when there is a nationality aspect to it, and with that in mind, how will Team North America and Team Europe respond? All in all, the tournament should set the table nicely for the regular season.

And fingers crossed that no one gets hurt.

So, here’s why #Tweetmail is taking a bit of a hiatus: I’m going on vacation next week, and then we’re launching a new website through MLBAM’s platform in mid- to late September. Without getting into too much detail, pages on the new website essentially have to be constructed from scratch, which is quite a bit of leg work, as you can probably imagine. I want to make sure my time is as much focused on the new site as possible, which means #Tweetmail will have to take a seat for a few weeks. What will the new site look like? I’m not sure how much I can say, but picture a cleaner, responsive design, and bear in mind that the NHL re-launched its website earlier this year.
