Hurricanes To Hold News Conference Thursday, 10:30 A.M.

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2004) – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes will hold a news conference Thursday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m. in the RBC Center media room. Mr. Rutherford will address the results of Wednesday’s NHL Board of Governor’s meeting in New York and the Collective Bargaining Agreement expiration.

Mr. Rutherford offered the following statement following today’s meeting:

“Today, the Board of Governors confirmed that NHL teams will not play until the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is replaced. As a result, the opening of training camps will be delayed.

“Commissioner Bettman has advised all teams to release hockey-related dates in their buildings for 30 days beginning today. That is a rolling 30-day period that, at this time, cancels our scheduled exhibition games and our regular-season opener on Oct. 14, and will continue to cancel games until the Collective Bargaining Agreement dispute is resolved.

“The League has our full support as we take this difficult but necessary step toward creating a new economic system that will help our club in the future. The Carolina Hurricanes organization apologizes for the inconvenience the necessary action will cause its loyal fans, employees and business partners. We hope our team will be back in action soon.
