RALEIGH, NC – Jon Chase, Director of Community Relations and Promotions for the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, announced today that more than 500 Carolina Hurricanes hats will be donated to three local hospitals this summer. Chevrolet sponsored a Hurricanes hat giveaway during the April 8 game against the Montreal Canadiens, in which the first 14,000 fans received a promotional hat. Hurricanes captain Eric Staal scored three times in Carolina’s 5-2 win over the Canadiens. After his third goal, many fans threw their hats onto the ice to celebrate.
Staal has chosen to donate all of the hats to Duke Children’s Hospital, UNC Children’s Hospital and Rex Hospital. Hurricanes mascot Stormy and members of the Eye Care Associates Storm Squad will hand out the hats to child outpatient clinics and will visit inpatient rooms at each hospital. The hats, which were frozen for three days to meet the hospitals’ sanitary standards, feature the Hurricanes’ primary logo on the front and the Chevrolet logo on the back.
The scheduled visits are as follows:
- Duke Children’s Hospital: Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
- UNC Children’s Hospital: Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- Rex Hospital: Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, 5 p.m. - 6 p.m.
