Skinner Named NHL Rookie of the Month for January

RALEIGH, NC – The National Hockey League today named Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner as its Rookie of the Month for January.

Skinner, 18, totaled 14 points (9g, 5a) and a plus-6 plus/minus rating in the Hurricanes’ 14 games in January, besting Boston’s Brad Marchand who posted 12 points (8g, 4a) for the month. On Jan. 26, the Markham, Ont., native became the youngest player in NHL history to be selected to the All-Star Game, and he earned an assist in the game on Jan. 30 while playing for Team Staal. Skinner (5’11”, 193 lbs.) currently leads all NHL rookies with 40 points and 22 assists, ranks second among league rookies with 18 goals and 13 power-play points, and is tied for second among league rookies with four power-play goals. The Hurricanes selected Skinner (5’11”, 193 lbs.) in the first round, seventh overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
