RALEIGH, NC (March 22, 2000) -- On January 23, 2000, the wives of the Carolina Hurricanes hosted their, Third Annual Skate with the Hurricanes at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Sponsored by Rex Healthcare, Skate with the Hurricanes offered 800 fans the opportunity to skate with members of the team and their wives, a tour of the team locker room, an auction of NHL team merchandise, autographs, photos with the team, and a light dinner.
Through the generosity of sponsors (Jesse Jones, Merita, Schlotsky’s, Goodberry’s, Pepsi, Rex Healthcare, Nortel Networks and BTI) and the contributions of fans, the Third Annual Skate with the Hurricanes raised over $40,000.
During tonight’s Hurricanes’ home game against the St. Louis Blues, Jim Albright, President and CEO of REX Healthcare will present a check of $40,348.12 to Hurricanes’ wives Mary Lou Francis, Tammi Roberts and Jane Gelinas for the Kids N’ Community Foundation.
The Kids N’ Community Foundation will donate all proceeds from the Skate with the Hurricanes to the Hockey Fights Cancer-Kids Initiative and the Steve Chiasson Children’s Pond.
