Forward Alexander Semin has been sidelined indefinitely with a concussion, Carolina Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller said after practice on Tuesday.

As he was circling around the back of the net with the puck, Semin absorbed a hard hit from St. Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo early in the second period on Saturday. Semin left the game briefly before returning, but he did not play in the third period. He has been off the ice since.

“He’ll get some more testing tomorrow and will go through the usual routine and protocol,” Muller said.

Pietrangelo was not penalized on the hit, and supplementary discipline was not levied. Though hard, the hit looked to be clean, as he laid squarely into Semin’s chest with his shoulder.

Semin missed the final two games of the 2012-13 season with a concussion. In 20 games this season, Semin ranks tied for third on the team in scoring with nine points (3g, 6a).
