RALEIGH, NC - The National Hockey League today announced that Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho will represent the Metropolitan Division at the 2019 NHL All-Star Weekend, to take place from Jan. 25-26 in San Jose. This marks Aho's first appearance at the event.
Aho, 21, leads the Hurricanes in goals (15), assists (24) and points (39) through 38 games this season. The 6'0", 176-pound forward set a pair of franchise records with his 12-game point/assist streak from Oct. 4-30 (4g, 13a), which marked the longest season-opening point streak and longest assist streak in Hurricanes/Whalers history. He joined Wayne Gretzky (1982-83) and Ken Linseman (1985-86) as the only players in NHL history to record an assist in each of their team's first 12 games.
The Rauma, Finland, native has registered 153 points (68g, 85a) in 198 career games with the Hurricanes and has tallied a point on 43 of Carolina's 104 power-play goals (41.3%) scored during his three seasons. Aho has represented Finland at the IIHF World Championship three times (2016-18), winning silver in 2016 and leading the tournament in goals (9) in 2018. He also played for his home country at the 2015 and 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships, winning gold in 2016. Aho was drafted by the Hurricanes in the second round, 35th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft. He ranks third among the 2015 Draft class in goals, fifth in points and sixth in assists.
