The Carolina Hurricanes and Litho Industries will sponsor a “SCORE FOR HUNGER FOOD DRIVE” during the team’s home games at the new Entertainment and Sports Arena on Monday, November 22 against the Boston Bruins, and on Wednesday, November 24 against the Vancouver Canucks. Fans who donate a non-perishable, canned food item will receive a limited edition Hurricanes player card.
All food that is collected during the two Hurricanes home games will be donated to the Food Bank of North Carolina Kids Café. Initiated by Second Harvest, the national network of food banks, Kids Cafes seek to provide nutritious after school meals three days a week, and support the child’s educational and social needs in an environment which welcomes and supports kids ages 17 and under.
The Food Bank of North Carolina is a private, not-for-profit organization, which serves more than 500 agencies throughout central and eastern North Carolina through the Jack and Hofler Building in Raleigh and through its branch operation in Aberdeen. One of six Second Harvest member food banks in North Carolina, the Raleigh-based Food Bank solicits, collects, stores, and distributes food to nonprofit agencies assisting people at risk from hunger. In 1998, the Food Bank distributed more than 8.7 million pounds of food to those in need.
