Both Sergei Samsonov and Scott Walker will miss Saturday's rematch against the New York Rangers, coach Paul Maurice said after practice today.

Each player is suffering through an upper-body injury, although they were able to complete the initial game of the home-and-home series with the Rangers on New Year's Eve.  Samsonov has been struggling with his ailment for quite some time, having recently missed several off-day practices.

Since the Hurricanes are currently not carrying any extra players on their roster, Maurice said that the team would recall two forwards from Albany of the AHL today.  The team has not yet decided who those two players will be, although it's worth noting that Zach Boychuk is on a four-game points streak, with six total points over that span.

Complicating the problem is the gradual recovery progress of Erik Cole and Chad LaRose, who Maurice said are hoping to receive clearance to skate next week.

Maurice also provided a positive update on Joe Corvo, who is now about four and a half weeks into his expected 8-12 week recovery period from a leg laceration.

"We're pretty excited about how he's healing," said Maurice.  "He's back riding the bike and he's back doing some things."

Enjoy today's Winter Classic, which is about to begin as I type this.  Things sure worked out for Michael Leighton, didn't they?
