Carolina Hurricanes forward Aleksi Saarela will miss the NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., after recently undergoing minor surgery.
Saarela, 19, isn't expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time. Depending on when he's medically cleared, he could still attend Hurricanes training camp, which begins on-ice on Sept. 23.
A native of Helsinki, Finland, Saarela was among the assets acquired from the New York Rangers in exchange for Eric Staal. The Hurricanes signed Saarela, who was a third-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, to a three-year, entry-level contract in June.
The NHL Prospects Tournament begins on Friday, Sept. 16. The Hurricanes will not replace Saarela on their roster, which can be seen here.
