RON FRANCIS NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY

Raleigh, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes today announced that team captain Ron Francis was named the Big Sky Beef Player of the Month as voted by the fans for month of January. At each home game, fans have the opportunity to vote for the player they feel has played the best in the past month. The ballot box is located at promotions table on the concourse. Hurricanes forward Bates Battaglia was named Big Sky Player of the Month during October, while defenseman Paul Coffey earned the honor for the month of December.

During January, Francis totaled 12 points (4g, 8a) in 13 games. Francis, who was originally drafted by the organization in 1981, is the franchise’s all-time leader in games played (850), goals (302), assists (619), points (921), hat tricks (9), game-winning goals (45) and power-play goals (96).

With 17 goals, 31 assists and 48 points this season, Francis is on pace to lead the team in assists for the eighth time and points for the sixth time and reach 20 goals for the 12th time (a club record). Francis also owns club records for most assists in a season (69), most assists by a rookie (43), most goals in a game (4), most assists in a game (6), and most points in a game (6).

Francis will receive a gift certificate for a three-month supply of beef from Big Sky Beef, which he will donate to the Food Bank of North Carolina Kids Cafe.
