REVIEW: Tampa Bay Lightning 3, HURRICANES 2

by Staff Writer / Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes concluded their four-game road trip with a 1-3-0 mark after falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2, on Friday, December 10th.

The loss marked the first the team has suffered to a Southeast Division opponent this season (2-1-2) and the first time since October 1, 1997 that the team has lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Trailing 1-0 in the first period, forward Paul Ranheim registered his second goal of the season, receiving a Jeff O'Neill pass just above the goal crease and putting the puck past Lightning goalie Dan Cloutier.

After the Lightning scored to go up 3-1 in the third period, defenseman Sean Hill notched his sixth goal of the season and fourth on the power-play at 9:23 of the period. With an assist on the play, Ron Francis extended his point streak to five games (2g, 4a) and is currently one point shy of 900 with the organization.

Arturs Irbe recorded 16 saves in his third consecutive start.

Carolina returns home to begin a four-game homestand at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The team hosts the Pittsburgh Penguins on December 15, the Atlanta Thrashers on December 18, the Colorado Avalanche on December 20, and the Detroit Red Wings on December 22 before traveling to play the Ottawa Senators on December 23.
