REVIEW: PREDATORS 2, HURRICANES 1

by Staff Writer / Carolina Hurricanes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Martin Gelinas extended his points streak to three games with a second period goal, but the Nashville Predators were able to hand Carolina its first loss of the 2000-01 season by a score of 2-1 Saturday night at Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Gelinas tied it 1-1 at 18:23 of the second period with his first goal of the year. He faked a slap shot from the left circle, then put a wrist shot by Vokoun's left skate.

Rookie forward Josef Vasicek earned his third point in two nights with an assist on the goal by Gelinas. Forward Rob DiMaio also extended his point streak to two games with an assist on the goal.

Goaltender Tyler Moss, playing in his first NHL game since December 11, 1998, stopped 32 Predators shots in a strong effort.

Game notes

This year's Hurricanes are a collective 42 years younger than last season's team, Carolina GM Jim Rutherford said. ... Both teams were playing their second game in two nights. Carolina seemed more tired, managing just one shot in the game's first 13:27. ... ABC's Al Michaels and Dennis Miller were in the stands. The Jacksonville Jaguars visit the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. Predators mascot Gnash mugged with Miller during the first period.
