REVIEW: Dallas Stars 2, HURRICANES 1

by Staff Writer / Carolina Hurricanes

Dallas Stars' veteran Guy Carbonneau scored with 1:38 remaining in the third period as the Dallas Stars defeated the visiting Carolina Hurricanes, 2-1.

Hurricanes' captain Ron Francis opened the game's scoring with a power-play goal that was set up by Jeff O'Neill and Paul Coffey to give Carolina an early lead. Carolina entered the game with the league's fourth-best power-play unit after registering three power-play goals the night before in St. Louis.

Arturs Irbe, looking to extend his unbeaten streak to seven games, was impressive in net tallying 26 saves in the game. Irbe, a former Stars' netminder, had shutout Dallas, 1-0, in the teams' earlier meeting this season at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Carolina and Dallas entered the third period tied at 1-1, after the Stars' Brett Hull notched his 11th goal of the season with a wrist shot from deep in the slot at 11:30 of the second period.

The Hurricanes, who are 1-2-0 in the first three games of their current four-game road trip, play in Tampa Bay on Friday night before returning home for a four-game homestand.
