REVIEW: Colorado Avalanche 3, HURRICANES 1

by Staff Writer / Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes saw their season-high, five-game unbeaten streak end as the Colorado Avalanche earned a 3-1 victory over the visiting Hurricanes on Saturday night.

The loss marked the first time the team had lost on a Saturday this season and was only the club's second loss in its last 11 games (5-2-4).

Hurricanes' captain Ron Francis tied the game in the second period with his fifth goal of the season taking a slot feed from Andrei Kovalenko and putting it past Avalanche goaltender Patrick Roy.

Colorado would retake the lead later in the second period when Brian Rolston converted on the power-play. Second-year forward Milan Hejduk padded the Avalanche lead with his 16th goal of the season in the third period.

Hurricanes netminder Eric Fichaud, in his first start since November 3rd, tallied 24 saves. Acquired from the Nashville Predators on draft day this past summer, Fichaud is 2-3-0 on the season with one shutout for the Hurricanes.

Carolina, 5-5-5 on the road this season, travels to face the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, the Dallas Stars on Wednesday, and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday before returning home to Raleigh.
