RALEIGH, North Carolina (Sat Nov 13 23:15:03 1999) -- Sean Hill and Andrei Kovalenko scored power-play goals just over three minutes apart early in the first period and the Carolina Hurricanes hung on for a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Jeff O'Neill opened the scoring for Carolina 85 seconds into the contest. Hill and Kovalenko staked the Hurricanes to a 3-0 advantage by scoring 3:08 apart. Hill's goal was his second while Kovalenko's tally was his fourth.

Tampa got back in the contest on goals by Steve Guolla, his second, and Mike Sillinger, his sixth. But the Carolina defense limited the Lightning to just four shots over the final 20 minutes.

Tampa Bay's loss was just its second in five games while Carolina won for just the second time in six contests. The Hurricanes are 3-0-3 in their last six against the Lightning and 9-1-4 in the last 14.
