Recap: Canes Complete Comeback, Ground Jets

RALEIGH, NC. -The Carolina Hurricanes trailed 2-1 going into the third period Thursday, but struck three times in the final frame to take a 4-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

The Rundown:
For a second straight Thursday at PNC Arena, the visiting netminder became a story early, as Eric Comrie made some mammoth stops to keep Winnipeg from falling behind in the opening stages. Last week it was Alex Nedeljkovic doing everything for Detroit, tonight Comrie was making save after save, allowing the Jets to eventually claim the game's first goal despite Carolina's attacks.
In fact, not only did they get the first, they also got the second as well, taking a 2-0 advantage into the second - although they were being outshot 15-7.
During the second Comrie's high-level performance continued, turning away 18 more shots. However, before Winnipeg could take their two-goal advantage into the third, the Canes were given an abbreviated four-on-three to try and take some of the momentum heading into the final frame.
The outcome? A Teuvo Teravainen power play tally, serving as what would be a big turning point in the game with just 30 seconds to go in the middle period.

Getting one by Comrie turned out to be what was needed for the floodgates to open, as Carolina came back out for the third with more wind in their sails.
It took just 4:10 for Jaccob Slavin to earn the game-tying tally, following up an incredible effort by Andrei Svechnikov and cleaning up the scraps to make it 2-2.
4:11 after Slavin's marker, Winnipeg-born Seth Jarvis put home the game-winner for Carolina, also putting back a rebound to give his team their first lead of the night.

Then with the 3-2 advantage, Carolina's dominance held Winnipeg to just one shot in the opening 11:50 of the third period. It was all Canes the rest of the way, eventually reaching a final shot total of 46-22.
Before the final horn sounded, Jordan Staal, who was making his return to the lineup after leaving Saturday's third period early and missing Monday's meeting in Arizona, hit the empty net, giving him his ninth goal in his last seven games.

"It looked like a familiar game. Thankfully, tonight we got the result. We've had a lot of these games over the last month. You can't ask for much more, the other goalies have just been playing great against us and then it starts to look like the same thing. I think the key was just breaking through there at the end of the second and saying 'okay, we're one shot out now, not two'. Then I thought we had a really good third and we definitely deserved that one."
Jaccob Slavinon Andrei Svechnikov, who set up the defenseman's goal in the third...
"He's a special player, we've always known it. Ever since he was a rookie we've known that he's had that ability and he's just getting smarter now. He's always had poise and now he's continuing to get better and better and more confident. It's always nice as a defenseman to be able to give someone like that the puck."
Teuvo Teravainenoffering remarks on the power play, which has been a point of emphasis for improvement as of late...
"We've been trying to work on it every day. Sometimes you just don't get the bounces, but we've been trying to improve and get better at the small things. It's all about the battles and taking care of the puck a little better."
What's Next?:
The Canes are scheduled to practice Friday before departing for Newark. They'll then take on the Devils Saturday afternoon.
