Game to Benefit Tom Stetson Fund
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes will host a charity hockey game between the Raleigh PD BlueLiners and the Triangle Media All-Stars on Sunday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the RBC Center. The event will take place immediate following the Hurricanes’ practice and will benefit the Tom Stetson Fund. Parking and admission are free and open to the public.
Hurricanes defenseman Aaron Ward has confirmed that he will act as a guest coach during the game. Television play-by-play man and radio analyst John Forslund will emcee the event and silent auctions will be held to help raise donations. Various prizes given away and there will be a raffle for a $650 grill and grill set courtesy of Mike Palermo and Suburban Propane. Voluntary donations will be accepted at the RBC Center’s east entrance where fans should park and enter the arena.
The event will benefit the family of Tom Stetson, a tenured Wake County Emergency Medical Services paramedic who recently passed away due to medullablastoma, or brain cancer. He is survived by his wife and daughter who are overwhelmed with medical bills and living expenses.
The Triangle Media All-Star squad will feature Hurricanes assistant coaches Randy Ladouceur and Kevin McCarthy, television color analyst Tripp Tracy, ABC 11’s Ed Crump and Drew Smith, WRAL’s Mike Crowley and Mark Roberts, Margaret Lilliard of the Associated Press and RBC Center General Manager Davin Olsen. Emily Cole, wife of Hurricanes left wing Erik Cole, will skate as will 96 Rock morning man Chopper Harrison.
