RALEIGH, NC- Following the opening day of training camp for the 2021-22 NHL season, Carolina Hurricanes Jordan Staal, Ethan Bear, Antti Raanta, and Frederik Andersen, and head coach Rod Brind'Amour met with the media to discuss Day One of camp and the upcoming season.

Rod Brind'Amour
On how he envisions using line combinations in camp:
"I think we'll try a few different things in preseason. That's the beauty of this; you can try some things. I know what I can put together, and I'm not going to start with that. We're going to see, and if we have to fall back to certain things, great, but you're trying to find different looks and see if guys have something together, and you don't really know that until you play. Practice is one thing but until we get playing we're not going to be able to assess quarterbacking power plays and all those kinds of things."

"I know what I can put together."

Ethan Bear
On what has stood out to him about how Rod runs the team:
"His passion. You can tell right from the first meeting yesterday how much he wants to win. He loves the Hurricanes, he loves Carolina, and as a player it makes you want to win that much more, and work harder, and compete and win."

"I'm excited, I felt pretty good out there today."

Frederik Andersen
On the expectations of the Hurricanes returning to the postseason:
"There's a clear-cut mission of where we want to go, and I think that's obvious to everyone. We want to build towards a championship and we all know that's a long process, so I think we start today and keep building every day."

"I'm happy to be feeling well."

Jordan Staal
On how the chemistry is with new players:
"It's good. I feel like a lot of the new guys came in quite early so we're getting to know them quickly. It was a great pace out there today - I'm still huffing and puffing after that practice - so it was a good day and all the guys looked ready to go."

"It was a good day and all the guys looked ready."

Antti Raanta
On joining a team that expects to compete for a championship:
"It feels great. Obviously I knew a lot of guys already before I even came here, so it was an easy transition for me. But you see how these guys work out, how they practice, what they do on the ice, off the ice, so you just try to match that level and get to their level. You want to bring something to the table every day, what you can, and you just try to do your best every day. As a goalie you just try to help the team win so that's my focus every day; try to get a little bit better."

"It's been a lot of fun here."
