TRAVERSE CITY – Less than 24 hours after dropping their NHL Prospects Tournament opener to the Detroit Red Wings, the Carolina Hurricanes will get back on the ice at Centre Ice Arena to take on the Dallas Stars.
The Canes and Stars will face off at 3:30 p.m. in the second game of the three-game round robin slate. It’s a quick turnaround for the Canes, who will still be looking to net their first tournament goals after being shut out 1-0 by Detroit on Friday night.
“We just need to rebound and build off the third period. I thought we went hard to the net in the first and hard to the net in the third, and we won a lot of puck battles in the third,” head coach Mark Morris said after the game. “The second period sticks out in my mind as something we need to erase from our memory bank and get back to work.”
“I think we’re definitely an offensive team,” team captain Brock McGinn said. “If we keep working hard, the chances will come and we’ll start putting them in the net.”
The Hurricanes did not skate this morning, and minimal changes will be made to their lineup. Both tournament invitee Niki Petti and defenseman Tyler Ganly, who were healthy extras on Friday, will draw into the lineup. Tournament invitee Chris Marchese and defenseman Josh Wesley will sub out.
Rasmus Tirronen made 27 saves in net on Friday night, but he’ll get a rest today, as 18-year-old goaltender Callum Booth takes the crease. Booth was a fourth-round pick of the Canes in this year’s draft.
As was the case yesterday, you can follow along with live game updates from David’s Rink at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City on @Canes_Gameday.
