As the winners of the 3rd Annual “Together In Education” fundraiser, Sycamore Creek Elementary School enjoyed a Carolina Hurricanes assembly for the entire school on Tuesday, May 25.  Sycamore Creek purchased the largest number of tickets to Carolina Hurricanes games this past season out of all 40 participating schools.  After raising $1,227, the entire school was rewarded with a trophy and an assembly with Chad LaRose, Stormy and Ron and Ref.

“Together In Education” is a fundraiser held by a partnership of the Carolina Hurricanes and Harris Teeter.  Money is raised by a portion of each ticket sold going towards the schools’ total. An incredible $79,000 has been donated to Wake County Parent Teacher Associations over the past three years.  As the program expands each year, more schools participate by purchasing tickets to Carolina Hurricanes games and more money is raised and donated back to Wake County Schools.

“We have a great partnership with Harris Teeter and the Wake County PTA Council," said Brian Slais, group sales manager for the Hurricanes.  "This program was developed to allow students, teachers, friends and family to enjoy great Hurricanes hockey action while raising money for their school.  The assembly we had at Sycamore Creek today was a celebration and reward for all the hard work and effort that the PTA, students and faculty put toward the program.”

Students, teachers and parents all attended the assembly on Tuesday to enjoy special appearances by LaRose and Stormy.  The school turned red that day as everyone showed their support by wearing Hurricanes jerseys and chanting “Lets go Canes!”.  Students enjoyed watching their friends in an equipment race in which participants raced the clock to put on real Hurricanes pants, jerseys, gloves and helmets.

“The enthusiasm and response from the kids was incredible,” said Ron the Ref.

During the appearance by LaRose, students had the opportunity to ask questions, take pictures and receive autographs.  Stormy was also a hit with the students as he worked the crowd with his energetic personality and even took a picture with Sycamore Creek’s own mascot, the Sycamore Creek Crocodile.

The fundraiser was a great success thanks to the support by the students, faculty and friends of Sycamore Creek Elementary School.  The Carolina Hurricanes Promotions Team enjoyed visiting the school for the assembly, had a blast with the wonderful students and hope to return in the future.
