Historically Good Koochie:With his perfect performance on Monday, Pyotr Kochetkov became the first goalie in franchise history to post a shutout in his first five NHL regular season games. Now 5-0-0 since making his debut in April, he is also one of just 12 goalies in NHL history to win each of their first five appearances.
Third Line Grind:The line of Jordan Staal, Jordan Martinook and Jesper Fast has now combined for 13 points (six goals, seven assists) over the team's last three games. Martinook's three-game point streak is now tied for the longest of his career.
Andrei 300:Forward Andrei Svechnikov will play in his 300th NHL game tonight, becoming the second-youngest player (22 years, 236 days) in franchise history to do so. The only player to have accomplished it sooner was Sebastian Aho, who will best Svechnikov's milestone by just 31 days. His 227 points will also rank as the third-most for any Hurricanes player through 300 games, trailing only Aho (253) and Eric Staal (249).
Feel The Burns:Defenseman Brent Burns recorded two assists in Monday night's win over Chicago, his second multi-point outing of the season. He now has 173 career multi-point games, the most by any active defenseman in the league.
Injury Report: Forward Ondrej Kase has been in concussion protocol since October 13. Goaltender Frederik Andersen (lower-body injury) was placed on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to November 6. Forward Teuvo Teravainen (upper-body injury) was placed on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to November 10. Rod Brind'Amour said Wednesday that, "Nobody's close to coming back."
On The Other Side:The Avalanche, like the Canes, have played just one game since these two teams saw each other head-to-head on Saturday. They were on the wrong side of
a 45-save performance by Blues netminder Jordan Binnington
, who earned the win for his club. Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon both remain among the league's leading scorers, producing 25 and 24 points respectively through 14 games.
