GAME DAY:
The Carolina Hurricanes return home to face the Atlanta Thrashers on Wednesday at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The game is just the third home game for Carolina in the month of February, and the start of a three-game home stand. The Hurricanes are 12-7-3-1 in their last 23 games overall. Carolina has lost just once this season when leading after two periods (18-0-1-1). The Hurricanes enter the game one point behind Boston for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, with one game in hand. Boston plays at Colorado Wednesday night.

CAROLINA / ATLANTA SERIES:
The Hurricanes and the Thrashers face-off for the third of five meetings this season. Carolina won the first two contests, defeating Atlanta at Philips Arena 5-3 on Dec. 6 and 3-1 on Feb. 1. The two teams meet again on Feb. 27 in Atlanta and on April 6 in Raleigh. The Hurricanes defeated the Thrashers in all five of the teams’ match-ups last season—the Thrashers’ inaugural season. The Hurricanes are 7-0-0-0 all-time against Atlanta and 3-0 on home ice.

CAROLINA NOTES
Hurricanes center Rod Brind’Amour (9g, 15a) has 24 points in the last 20 games and has points in 12 of his last 14 games (5g, 13a). Carolina winger Jeff O’Neill has 32 points in his last 32 games (23g, 9a), scoring goals in 17 of those games. Ron Francis has 18 points (5g, 13a) in his last 19 games. Goaltender Arturs Irbe has started 44 of the last 46 games. If he plays Wednesday, Martin Gelinas will be playing his 800th career NHL game. The Hurricanes are in the midst of a stretch in which they play five games in seven days.
