GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to extend their home unbeaten streak to a franchise record-tying seven games as they play host to the Florida Panthers at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The Hurricanes current six-game home unbeaten streak is the longest since the 1985-86 season, when the Hartford Whalers went unbeaten at home for seven games (5-0-2) from March 15-April 5, 1986 to establish the franchise record.

CAROLINA / FLORIDA SERIES:
The Hurricanes and Panthers have met three times this season, with each team winning once and the two teams tying the other contest. Carolina center Josef Vasicek (2g, 1a), defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh (0g, 3a) and Florida defenseman Robert Svehla (0g, 3a) lead all scorers in this season’s series with three points in the three contests. Last season the Hurricanes posted a 3-2 record against the Panthers in the teams’ five match-ups. Carolina forward Jeff O’Neill led all scorers in the series with seven points (3g, 4a). Carolina posts a 12-14-7 record all-time against the Panthers and is 7-8-1 on home ice. Of the last 13 regular season games between Florida and Carolina, eight games have gone to overtime and just four games have been decided by more than one goal.

CAROLINA NOTES:
Carolina winger Jeff O’Neill has 14 points in his last 13 games (9g, 5a), scoring goals in eight of those games. Hurricanes winger Sami Kapanen has scored 14 points (8g, 6a) in the last 16 games. Carolina goaltender Arturs Irbe appeared in his 28th consecutive game Saturday night. The previous franchise record was 24, set by Irbe during the 1999-2000 season. Irbe has started 27 consecutive games.

The Panthers fired head coach Terry Murray and General Manager Bryan Murray on December 28, replacing them with Bill Torrey at General Manager and Duane Sutter at Head Coach. Pavel Bure is tied for eighth in the league in goal scoring with 21 goals in 41 games.
