The Carolina Hurricanes and the Chicago Blackhawks meet for the first of two matchups this season on Sunday night. The two teams meet again on March 4 at United Center in Chicago. The Blackhawks and Hurricanes faced eachother just once last season, a 4-1 Hurricanes win at the Entertainment and Sports Arena on March 8. Chicago native Bates Battaglia registered his first career hat trick and the only hat trick for the Hurricanes during the 1999-2000 season, scoring all three goals in the third period against the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks lead the all-time season series 28-20-6 against the Hurricanes franchise, but the Hurricanes are 13-12-3 against Chicago all-time at home.
