The Hurricanes and Bruins split their first two games this season, with the Hurricanes winning the first meeting 3-1 in Boston on Nov. 24 at the Fleet Center and the Bruins returning the favor 4-1 in Boston on Dec. 16. The Hurricanes and Bruins split a four-game series, 2-2 last season with each team losing both games at home. Carolina team captain Ron Francis led all scorers in the series with four points (0g, 4a). Goaltender Arturs Irbe recorded a .906 save percentage and a 2.54 goals against average against Boston last season in 236 minutes of work. The Hurricanes are 49-77-14 all-time against Boston and 29-32-7 on home ice against the Bruins.
The Hurricanes assigned goaltender Tyler Moss to Cincinnati of the IHL on January 17 and recalled Jean-Marc Pelletier. Pelletier has yet to play a game in the NHL this season.
