CAROLINA / BOSTON SERIES:
The Hurricanes and Bruins split their first two games this season, with the Hurricanes winning the first meeting 3-1 in Boston on Nov. 24 at the Fleet Center and the Bruins returning the favor 4-1 in Boston on Dec. 16. The Hurricanes and Bruins split a four-game series, 2-2 last season with each team losing both games at home. Carolina team captain Ron Francis led all scorers in the series with four points (0g, 4a). Goaltender Arturs Irbe recorded a .906 save percentage and a 2.54 goals against average against Boston last season in 236 minutes of work. The Hurricanes are 49-77-14 all-time against Boston and 29-32-7 on home ice against the Bruins.

CAROLINA NOTES
The Hurricanes assigned goaltender Tyler Moss to Cincinnati of the IHL on January 17 and recalled Jean-Marc Pelletier. Pelletier has yet to play a game in the NHL this season. Carolina winger Jeff O’Neill has 19 points in his last 17 games (12, 7a), scoring goals in ten of those games. Carolina goaltender Arturs Irbe appeared in his 32nd consecutive game Sunday, notching his franchise record-tying eighth consecutive game without a loss. Irbe’s current unbeaten streak matches the franchise record set by John Garrett from December 6-26, 1980. . Hurricanes winger Sami Kapanen has scored 17 points (9g, 8a) in the last 20 games. Martin Gelinas (3g, 4a) has seven points in the last five games, while Rod Brind’Amour (4g, 2a) and Shane Willis (1g, 5a) each have notched six points in the last five games.

The Bruins let go of coach Pat Burns in October and hired Mike Keenan as the 23rd head coach in Bruins history on October 25, 2000. The Bruins are 14-13-5-4 since Keenan took over.
