The Carolina Hurricanes travel to Tampa to complete their 14th of 16 sets of back-to-back games this season. The Hurricanes defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Wednesday night at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Hurricanes defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh is currently on a five-game point streak (5g, 4a) – a streak that includes a hat trick on March 4 at Chicago. Ron Francis is just one point shy of 1,000 points with the franchise. Defenseman Glen Wesley was placed on the Injured Reserve List on March 5 after suffering a broken jaw and a severe facial laceration at Chicago on March 4. Niclas Wallin was recalled from Cincinnati of the IHL to fill Wesley’s roster spot, and registered an assist on the game-winner against Columbus on Wednesday. The Hurricanes are currently two points ahead of the Boston Bruins for the eighth playoff spot, with one game in hand.

CAROLINA / TAMPA SERIES:
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet for the fifth and final time this season on Thursday night in Tampa. The Hurricanes lead the season series three games to one, with Tampa’s only win coming in their only game at the Ice Palace against Carolina. At the Entertainment and Sports Arena, the Hurricanes defeated the Lightning 6-5 in overtime on Oct. 31; 3-2 on Jan. 3; and 5-2 on Jan. 29. The Lightning defeated the Hurricanes 3-2 on Dec. 26. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series against the Lightning 20-10-6 including a 6-8-3 mark at Tampa.
Carolina center Rod Brind’Amour has 34 points (12g, 22a) in the last 28 games and is third among all Hurricanes with 48 points (16g, 32a). The Hurricanes are currently in their 14th of 16 sets of back-to-back games this season. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING NOTES:
The Lightning acquired goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin on March 5 in exchange for RW Mike Johnson, defenseman Paul Mara, prospect Ruslan Zainullin and a second-round draft pick. Khabibulin has not played since Game 7 of the 1999 Western Conference Quarterfinals on May 4, 1999. Khabibulin is not expected to play tonight, as he must sign a contract with Tampa Bay before he can return to the net.
