GAME NIGHT: The Carolina Hurricanes begin a three-game road trip in Denver on Friday when they face off against the Colorado Avalanche…The Avalanche lead the Northwest Division of the Western Conference but suffered a not only a loss but injuries to standout players Adam Deadmarsh and Chris Drury on November 1 against Vancouver…Carolina goaltender Arturs Irbe returns to the Hurricanes after traveling to Latvia for his grandmother’s funeral…Irbe missed the Hurricanes’ game against Tampa Bay on October 31 to attend the funeral.

CAROLINA / COLORADO SERIES: The Hurricanes and the Avalanche met two times last season…Colorado won both games with the help of now-Carolina Hurricane defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh…Ozolinsh led all scorers - along Colorado forward Chris Drury - with three points in the two games (2g, 1a)…Colorado goaltender Patrick Roy turned away 27 Carolina shots, earned a 1.00 GAA and recorded a save percentage of .964 in the one game he played against the Hurricanes last season…The Hurricanes are 41-61-20 all-time against Colorado and are 17-36-9 on Avalanche home ice.

CAROLINA NOTES: Hurricane team captain Ron Francis passed Steve Yzerman for sixth-place on the NHL’s all-time points list against Tampa Bay on October 31...Francis also passed Bernie Nicholls and moved into 34th place on the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list with his 475th and 476th career goals against Tampa Bay…Martin Gelinas tallied a shorthanded goal against the Lightning on October 31, taking his points total to a team-high 10…Defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh, acquired from Colorado this past summer, tallied two assists, scored the game-winning goal and earned first star honors against Tampa Bay on October 31.

COLORADO NOTES: The Avalanche suffered more than a 4-3 loss on November 1 in Vancouver…Colorado right winger Adam Deadmarsh was sent to the locker room late in the second period after a fight with Vancouver defenseman Ed Jovanovski left him with a mild concussion…He is sidelined indefinitely…The Avalanche’s leading scorer, Chris Drury (5g, 12a), also left the game on November 1 with a sprained left knee ligament after colliding awkwardly into the boards at the start of period three…Drury’s status for Friday night’s game is unknown.
