The Hurricanes and the Thrashers meet for the second of five regular season match-ups this season. The Hurricanes defeated Atlanta 5-3 in the teams’ first meeting this season on Dec. 6, in Atlanta. The Hurricanes remain unbeaten all-time against Atlanta (6-0-0), after defeating the Thrashers in all five of the teams’ match-ups last season—the Thrashers’ inaugural season. Hurricane team captain Ron Francis led all scorers in last season’s series with nine points (2g, 7a) in the five contests. The Hurricanes are 6-0-0-0 all-time against Atlanta and 3-0 on Thrasher ice.
Carolina winger Jeff O’Neill has 29 points in his last 24 games (21g, 8a), scoring goals in 15 of those games. O’Neill established a new franchise record for goals in a single month by scoring 14 goals in the month of January, including six two-goal games. Hurricanes center Rod Brind’Amour (5g, 11a) has 16 points in the last 12 games. Martin Gelinas (6g, 10a) also has 16 points in the last 12 games. Carolina goaltender Arturs Irbe appeared in his 39th consecutive game Wednesday. Irbe has started 38 consecutive games.

Thrashers right wing Donald Audette is tied for fourth in the NHL in scoring with 58 points (24g, 34a).
