NORTH DAKOTA PRODUCT WILL PLAY IN LOWELL
RALEIGH, NC (March 20, 2002) – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the team has signed prospect Ryan Bayda to a three-year contract. Bayda, who recently completed his junior season at the University of North Dakota, will complete the season with the Hurricanes’ American Hockey League affiliate in Lowell, Mass. His three-year contract with the Hurricanes will begin in the 2002-03 season.
“We are very excited for Ryan to begin his professional career,” said Karmanos. Ryan had an exceptional three years at North Dakota which included a National Championship title as well as another Final Four appearance. With all that he accomplished at the collegiate level, he is ready to take the next step.”
Bayda (5’11’’, 190 lbs.) was North Dakota’s leading scorer in 2001-02 with 47 points (19g, 28a) in 37 games. Bayda was third in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and 15th in the nation in scoring. The 21-year-old junior completed his career at North Dakota with 146 points (61g, 85a) in 127 games. Bayda was selected by Carolina in the third round (80th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
