TELEVISION PLAY-BY-PLAY ANNOUNCER SIGNS THROUGH 2003-2004 SEASON
RALEIGH, N.C. (June 27, 2002) – Ken Lehner, Vice President of Marketing Communications for the National Hockey League Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed television play-by-play broadcaster John Forslund to a two-year contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Forslund recently completed his seventh season as the Hurricanes’ television play-by-play announcer and his 11th with the club. On the occasion that the team is not on the Hurricanes television network, Forslund provides color on the Hurricanes radio network with Chuck Kaiton. As the schedule permits, Forslund has also served as a play-by-play announcer for ESPN in the network’s hockey coverage during the regular season and playoffs. In addition to his work in the sport of hockey, he has also covered Atlantic Coast Conference and Southern Conference Basketball for FOX Sports Net over the last couple of seasons. He also often serves as an emcee for various club events, such as the Hurricanes rally held in downtown Raleigh following the 2002 playoffs.
Forslund first joined the organization for the 1991-92 season as the Public Relations Director, a position he held for four seasons. During his tenure, Forslund also served as the Whalers color analyst on the Whalers Radio Network. Prior to his appointment in Hartford, Forslund handled the television and radio broadcasts for the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League from 1984-1991. He was recognized as one of the AHL’s top publicists/announcers when he received the Ken McKenzie Award in 1989. A graduate of Springfield College, Forslund went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Athletic Management from Adelphi University.
