ESTERO, Fla. (Sept. 17, 2001) – The Carolina Hurricanes completed their third full day of training camp today with three groups working out at TECO Arena. Carolina is preparing for its first preseason game Tuesday, Sept. 18 against the Florida Panthers at TECO Arena at 7:30 p.m. The two teams will meet Wednesday night at 7:30 at National Car Rental Center in Sunrise, Fla. before Carolina returns to Raleigh, N.C. after the game for the remainder of the preseason.

There will be three more group workouts on Tuesday at TECO Arena, with one being a pregame skate for the 20 players in uniform for the preseason opener.

Coach Paul Maurice has been happy with the conditioning of his team. Only one player from last year’s team – winger Jeff Daniels -- has not skated while the team has been in Florida as he’s been out with a groin injury. Because of the short number of actual practice days in the preseason, Maurice and his staff have worked on special teams early in camp. Maurice said he’s looking to get his veterans ample playing time and will try to give some of the prospects a look.

The first preseason game in North Carolina will be against the Atlanta Thrashers at the Entertainment & Sports Arena on September 22 at 7 p.m. The Hurricanes open the 2001-02 regular season on October 5 at 7:00 p.m. against the New York Rangers at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.
