RALEIGH, NC (April 15, 2002) - The Southeast Division champion Carolina Hurricanes and Fox Sports Net have agreed to broadcast Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Wednesday night against the New Jersey Devils to all of North and South Carolina.

  • Originally, Fox Sports Net was scheduled to televise Games 4-5 on April 23-24. However, due to ongoing discussions between Fox Sports Net and the Hurricanes, along with overwhelming fan interest in the series, Game 1, which begins at 7 p.m. from the Entertainment & Sports Arena, was added late Monday afternoon. John Forslund will provide play-by-play coverage, assisted by analyst Tripp Tracy.

    “The renewed rivalry with New Jersey has resulted in it being critical for our fans to be exposed to Stanley Cup playoff hockey and all its intensity,” said Ken Lehner, Vice President of Marketing Communications.

    Game 2 of the series will take place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Entertainment & Sports Arena before the scene shifts to Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. for the Games 3 and 4. Game 3 will take place on Sunday, April 21 at 3 p.m. and Game 4 will be Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. in New Jersey.

    Carolina will play host to Game 5, if necessary, on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at the ESA. Game 6 would take place in New Jersey on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. and a deciding Game 7 would be held on Monday, April 29 at 7 p.m. in Raleigh. Carolina is seeded third in the Eastern Conference after capturing its second division title in four years. New Jersey is the sixth seed.

    Three games in the series will be shown on national television. ESPN2 will broadcast Game 2 from Raleigh and ESPN will air Game 3 from New Jersey. Game 6 is scheduled to be broadcast on ABC from the Continental Airlines Arena.

    All games can be heard on the Hurricanes’ flagship radio station WRBZ-AM (850 The Buzz), as well as the Hurricanes Radio Network.
