GAMES TO BE HEARD ON MIX 106.1 FM
RALEIGH, N.C. (Aug. 22, 2002) – Ken Lehner, Vice President of Marketing Communications for the 2002 Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes, today announced a one-year radio agreement with Charlotte radio station WNMX-FM (Mix 106.1), with a mutual option for 2003-04.
Most of the preseason, regular season and playoff games will be heard on the Charlotte radio station. Combined with the Kix Combo of WKXU-FM (101.1), WKIX-FM (102.3) and WDTF-AM (570), the Hurricanes Radio Network will stretch across North Carolina.
“We are thrilled to have Mix 106.1 FM join the Carolina Hurricanes Radio Network,” Lehner said. “The door has always been open for us in Charlotte, but in lieu of our success last spring, the door is wide open now. We will provide the pro sports fans in Charlotte an opportunity to fill a void left with the departure of the Hornets to New Orleans. We feel very strongly that the region will continue to embrace the Hurricanes.”
WNMX General Manager Tom Gentry added, “We followed the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup Finals last spring and are honored to be the Canes affiliate in this part of North Carolina.”
Chuck Kaiton returns as the play-by-play announcer for the team’s radio network, a position he has held since the organization joined the National Hockey League in the 1979-80 season. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Kaiton has served as President of the NHL Broadcasters Association for the past 16 seasons (1986-2002).
The Carolina Hurricanes open the regular season on Wednesday, October 9 against the New York Rangers at the Entertainment & Sports Arena at 8 p.m.
