NHL ALL-ROOKIE TEAM PICK INKS 1-YEAR DEAL
RALEIGH, NC (July 23, 2001) - Jim Rutherford, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the signing of second-year right winger Shane Willis to a one-year contract. As per club policy, no other terms were released.
Willis, 24, tied for third on the Hurricanes in goals (20) and tied for sixth in scoring (44) last season as he was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.
“We are glad to get Shane under contract,” Rutherford said. “He is coming off a strong rookie season, and will enter his second year with a lot more experience.”
Willis was one of the league’s top rookies in 2000-01. He was second in the NHL in rookie scoring and tied for second in goals.
