RALEIGH, NC (August 3, 2001) - Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the signings of defensemen Greg Kuznik, Jeremiah McCarthy and goaltender Randy Petruk to one-year contracts. As per club policy, no other terms were released.

Kuznik (6’0’’, 185 lbs.) spent most of last season with Cincinnati of the International Hockey League. Kuznik, 23, totaled seven points (0g, 7a) and 72 penalty minutes in 73 games with the Cyclones. A seventh-round draft pick in 1996, Kuznik also made his NHL debut last season, playing one game for the Hurricanes without registering a point.

McCarthy (6’0’’, 210 lbs.) tallied 18 points (6g, 12a) in 69 games for Cincinnati in 2000-01. The 25-year-old defenseman was signed by the Hurricanes last summer and was a college teammate of Karmanos and Hurricanes winger Craig Adams at Harvard.

Petruk (5’9’’, 175 lbs.) was originally selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the fourth round of the 1996 draft. Acquired by Carolina for a fifth-round pick in the 1999 Draft, Petruk split last season between Cincinnati of the IHL and Florida of the East Coast Hockey League. Petruk, 23, was 4-3-0 with a 3.29 goals against average for Cincinnati and 5-7-1 with a 3.31 GAA in Florida in 2000-01.
