Press Release: BYRON RITCHIE NAMED TO CANADIAN AHL ALL-STAR TEAM

Lowell, MA - The American Hockey League announced today that Carolina Hurricanes prospect and Lowell Lock Monsters center Byron Ritchie has been named to the Canadian All-Star team for the 2002 Assante & Baker Hughes AHL All-Star Classic.

Ritchie, a native of Burnaby, British Columbia, leads the Lock Monsters in point scoring for the season.  In 37 games with the Lock Monsters this season, Ritchie has accumulated 46 points on 20 goals and 26 assists.  He is currently ranked third in point scoring in the American Hockey League.

The 2002 Assante & Baker Hughes AHL All-Star Classic will take place at Mile One Stadium in St. John's, Newfoundland beginning Wednesday, Feb. 13 with the AHL Skills Competition at 7 p.m. The All-Star Game will be held Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

The Lock Monsters begin the first of a five-game road trip tonight in Norfolk, Va., where they face off against the Admirals for the first of two games this weekend.  They return to the Tsongas Arena on Jan. 15 to take on the Saint John Flames.  Tickets for all Lock Monsters home games may be purchased by contacting the Lock Monsters at (978) 458-7825, Ticketmaster at (617) 931-2222, or visiting the Tsongas Arena box office.
