GAME NIGHT

The defending Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes host the New York Islanders at RBC Center for the second of four meetings this season. The game marks the second half of Carolina’s third of 19 sets of back-to-back games this season, as the Hurricanes play the New Jersey Devils at Continental Airlines Arena on Tuesday night.

Rod Brind’Amour enters Tuesday night’s game at New Jersey ranked second on the team in scoring with eight points (6g, 2a) and tied for fifth in the league in goals scored. Kevyn Adams won 17 of 20 face-offs against Chicago and currently ranks second in the league in faceoff percentage (65.1). Brind’Amour, who was second in the league in faceoff percentage in 2001-02 (59.2%), is currently fifth in the league in faceoff percentage (61.8%) through games of Oct. 28. Carolina has been proficient on the penalty kill so far this season and currently ranks fifth in the league at 87.3% (55-of-63).

CAROLINA / NEW YORK NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Islanders meet for the second of four games this season. The Hurricanes defeated New York 4-1 on Oct. 22 behind a 36-save performance by netminder Kevin Weekes. Sami Kapanen netted two goals in the game. Kevyn Adams and Rod Brind’Amour also scored for Carolina.
The Islanders won last season’s series 3-1-0, including two overtime wins against the Hurricanes. Carolina’s lone win against the Islanders came on April 8 at Nassau Coliseum, 2-1. All three of the Islanders wins against Carolina came in October, as New York defeated Carolina 4-0 in Raleigh on Oct. 17, and topped the Hurricanes in overtime 3-2 on Oct. 26 in Raleigh and 2-1 on Oct. 18 at Nassau Coliseum. Rod Brind’Amour and Josef Vasicek each had a pair of goals in the season series. The Hurricanes lead the all-time regular season series with the Islanders with a record of 38-33-9-2. Carolina is 20-15-5-1 all-time at home against New York and 18-18-4-1 on the road.

ISLANDERS NOTES
Forward Michael Peca, who has missed the beginning of the season with a knee injury suffered against Toronto in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, is hoping to return to action on Dec. 6 when the Islanders take on the Maple Leafs. The Islanders host the Phoenix Coyotes Tuesday night at Nassau Coliseum.
