GAME NIGHT
The Carolina Hurricanes face the New York Islanders in their final homegame of 2003-04, Friday at 7 p.m. The team will mark the final game bycelebrating Caniac Appreciation Day, a tribute to the Hurricanes' fans.Festivities will begin two hours prior to the start of the game on theRBC Center south lawn, and conclude with the annual "Shirts Off OurBack" promotion where selected fans will receive players' jerseysfollowing the game. The Hurricanes will finish their season on Sunday atFlorida's Office Depot Center in a 3 p.m. matinee with the Panthers.

CAROLINA NOTES
On March 31, USA Hockey named Hurricanes' coach Peter Laviolette headcoach of Team USA for the 2004 World Championships. The annualtournament will take place April 24-May 9 in Prague and Ostrava, CzechRepublic. Laviolette led the U.S. Men's National Select Team to the goldmedal at the 2003 Deutchland Cup in Hanover, Germany in his first stintas a head coach at the international level. As a player, Lavioletterepresented the United States as a member of the 1988 and 1994 U.S.Olympic Teams, serving as captain of the 1994 squad... Josef Vasicek(18g, 23a) leads the Hurricanes with 19 goals this season and is tiedwith winger Justin Williams (11g, 31a) with 42 points. Winger Erik Cole(17g, 22a) is three points off the team lead with 39 points and twogoals behind Vasicek with 17. Defenseman Sean Hill leads Carolina'sblueline corps with 38 points (13g, 25a). Hill's 25:19 average ice timeleads the Hurricanes and ranked 10th in the league through games ofMarch 31.

AGAINST THE NEW YORK ISLANDERS
The Hurricanes and the Islanders meet for the fourth and final timeduring 2003-04, and the second time in the past seven days. Carolinascored a 3-2 victory on March 27, Peter Laviolette's first game coachingthe Hurricanes at Nassau Coliseum since being named Carolina's headcoach on Dec. 15, 2003. The Hurricanes downed the Islanders 2-0 on Nov.26 in the teams' first meeting this season behind Kevin Weekes' 28-saveshutout performance. Bret Hedican (1g, 1a) led the Hurricanes with twopoints in that game. Rookie Trent Hunter factored on all three goals inthe teams' Jan. 23 meeting in Raleigh, a 3-2 Islanders victory.

The Hurricanes and Islanders split last season's four-game set with eachteam winning once and losing once on home ice. Carolina scored victoriesagainst the Islanders on Oct. 30 (4-2 at RBC Center) and Dec. 28 (3-0 atNassau Coliseum), and New York won on Oct. 22 (4-1 at Nassau Coliseum)and April 6 (2-1 at RBC Center) last season. Rod Brind'Amour (2g, 2a)and Sami Kapanen (3g, 1a) led the Hurricanes in last season's four-gameset. Carolina posts a 41-36-9-2 all-time record against the Islanders,including a 21-17-5-1 mark at home and a 20-19-4-1 record at NassauColiseum.
