GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes play the second game of a three-game homestand on Sunday afternoon as they host the Los Angeles Kings at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. The Hurricanes fell to the New York Islanders 3-2 in overtime on Friday night in Raleigh. Ron Francis became the seventh player in NHL history to play in 1,500 NHL games on Friday. Francis joined Gordie Howe, Larry Murphy, Ray Bourque, Mark Messier, Alex Delvecchio, and John Bucyk in the elite club. Francis, who had a four-point game (2g, 2a) at Minnesota on Wednesday, is currently tied for fourth in the NHL in scoring with 13 points (2g, 11a). He is tied for first in the NHL in assists (11) and is one assist shy of 700 with the franchise.

Jeff O’Neill is tied with Francis and seven others for fourth in the NHL in scoring with 13 points (8g, 5a). O’Neill is tied for third in goals (8). Goaltender Tom Barrasso will pass Rogie Vachon for sole possession of 10th place on the NHL’s all-time wins list with his next victory. Defenseman Glen Wesley played in his 500th game with the Hurricanes franchise Friday night. The Hurricanes have scored one goal in their last 39 power-play opportunities.

The Carolina Hurricanes and the Los Angeles Kings meet for the first of two matchups this season. Carolina and Los Angeles meet again on Feb. 7 at Staples Center. The Kings swept the Hurricanes in last year’s season series, winning 6-3 in Raleigh and 4-2 in Los Angeles. Ron Francis (1g, 2a) and Sami Kapanen (0g, 3a) were Carolina’s leading scorers against Los Angeles last season. The Hurricanes are 23-26-7-0 all-time against the Kings, including a 13-11-4-0 record at home and a 10-15-3 record in L.A.

LOS ANGELES NOTES:
The Los Angeles Kings lost their second consecutive game with newly acquired center Jason Allison on Friday, falling 3-2 to the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Fla. The Kings acquired Allison and Mikko Eloranta from the Boston Bruins on Wednesday in exchange for Glen Murray and Jozef Stumpel.
