The Hurricanes fell to the New York Islanders 3-2 in overtime on Friday night in Raleigh. Ron Francis became the seventh player in NHL history to play in 1,500 NHL games on Friday. Francis joined Gordie Howe, Larry Murphy, Ray Bourque, Mark Messier, Alex Delvecchio, and John Bucyk in the elite club. Francis, who had a four-point game (2g, 2a) at Minnesota on Wednesday, is currently tied for fourth in the NHL in scoring with 13 points (2g, 11a). He is tied for first in the NHL in assists (11) and is one assist shy of 700 with the franchise.

The Los Angeles Kings lost their second consecutive game with newly acquired center Jason Allison on Friday, falling 3-2 to the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Fla. The Kings acquired Allison and Mikko Eloranta from the Boston Bruins on Wednesday in exchange for Glen Murray and Jozef Stumpel.
