GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes play their third game in four days as they host the Atlanta Thrashers at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. Carolina is looking to snap a three-game home losing streak and a two-game overall losing streak. The Hurricanes fell to the NY Islanders 2-1 in overtime on Thursday night at Nassau Coliseum. Goaltender Tom Barrasso stopped 35 of 37 Islanders shots to help the Hurricanes earn a point in the standings with the overtime tie.

Sami Kapanen, who is tied with Jeff O’Neill for the team lead in goals with four, missed Thursday’s game due to a back injury suffered on Oct. 17 against the Islanders in Raleigh. O’Neill leads the team in points (4g, 4a) and Ron Francis (0g, 7a) is second. Francis is currently third in the NHL in assists (7).

CAROLINA / ATLANTA SERIES:
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Atlanta Thrashers meet tonight for the second of five matchups this season. Carolina won the teams’ first meeting this season, knocking off Atlanta in the Thrashers’ home opener at Philips Arena 5-2 on Oct. 13. The Hurricanes won the regular season series last season against the Thrashers with a record of 4-0-1. Carolina was 2-0-1 at Philips Arena, winning 5-3 on Dec. 6 and 3-1 on Feb. 1. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie on Feb. 27. Carolina was 2-0 at home against Atlanta. Shane Willis notched his first career hat trick on Feb. 21 in a 6-3 win against the Thrashers in Raleigh. Carolina clinched a spot in the 2001 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 3-2 win against Atlanta at the Entertainment & Sports Arena on April 6. The Hurricanes are unbeaten against Atlanta in the regular season, holding a 10-0-1 advantage over the third-year franchise.

ATLANTA THRASHERS NOTES:
The Atlanta Thrashers have played just four games this season, and have a record of 1-1-1-1. Ilya Kovalchuk, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, has notched a pair of goals in his first four NHL games. Dany Heatley, a 2001 Hobey Baker Finalist (top Collegiate player), has three assists through his first four NHL games.
