GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes hit the road to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at Ice Palace. It will be the last game for Carolina before the NHL All-Star Break. The 52nd NHL All-Star Game takes place at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast by ABC. The NHL SuperSkills competition will take place on Friday at Staples Center at 10 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN. Sami Kapanen will represent the Carolina Hurricanes in the All-Star Game and the SuperSkills competition as part of the World Team, his second trip to the annual event. Defenseman David Tanabe will take part in the first-ever YoungStars Game, which will be held on Friday at 10 p.m. ET and will be shown live on ESPN.

CAROLINA NOTES:
Hurricanes captain Ron Francis ranked first in the league in power play points (29) and power-play assists (21) through games of Jan. 28. Francis, who will turn 39 on March 1, was fifth in the NHL in assists (33) and 10th in points (49). Sami Kapanen is tied with Francis for the team lead in points with 49. He is sixth in the league in power play points with 21.

CAROLINA / TAMPA BAY NOTES:
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet tonight night for the fourth of five match-ups this season, the third of three meetings in Tampa. Carolina defeated Tampa Bay in the teams’ most recent matchup, topping the Lightning 3-2 at the Ice Palace on goals by Ron Francis, Sami Kapanen and Aaron Ward. The Lightning won the first two meetings as goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin earned shutouts in both games. Khabibulin stopped 26 shots in a 2-0 victory in Tampa on Nov. 17, and followed it up a week later with a 41-save gem in a 4-0 Tampa Bay victory. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 21-13-6-0, but are 7-10-3-0 on the road.

TAMPA BAY NOTES:
Tampa Bay leading scorer Martin St. Louis was placed on the Injured Reserve on Jan. 24 after suffering a broken right fibula on Jan. 23 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tampa Bay defeated the NY Rangers on Monday 1-0 behind a 42-save performance by All-Star netminder Nikolai Khabibulin.
