GAME NIGHT

The defending Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes play their second road game of the 2002-03 NHL season tonight as they travel to St. Louis to take on the Blues at the Savvis Center. The Hurricanes dropped their first road game of the season at Tampa Bay on Saturday night, 5-1. Hurricanes center Rod Brind’Amour has scored a goal in each of Carolina’s first three games. Brind’Amour leads the team with four points through three games this season. Bret Hedican and Jeff O’Neill each have two-game assist streaks.

CAROLINA NOTES
Carolina was 11-3-5-1 against the Southeast Division in 2001-02 as the Hurricanes captured their second division title in four years. Since the division was created, Carolina has a 40-15-20-1 record in 76 games against the Washington Capitals, Atlanta Thrashers, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Carolina Hurricanes and the St. Louis Blues meet tonight for the first of two games this season. The two teams will meet again on Jan. 20 at RBC Center. The Blues won last year’s season series 1-0-0, defeating the Hurricanes 4-3 on Nov. 1 at the Savvis Center. Blues defenseman Chris Pronger had three assists in the game and forward Keith Tkachuk tallied a pair of goals for St. Louis. Jeff O’Neill was Carolina’s leading scorer with two goals. The Blues lead the all-time regular season series between the two teams 34-20-5, including a 19-9-3 mark in St. Louis and a 15-11-2 record on the road against the Hurricanes franchise.

BLUES NOTES
The Blues dropped their opener 4-3 to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim last Thursday at Savvis Center in St. Louis. They earned a 2-2 tie against Minnesota in their second game on Saturday, as Andrew Brunette scored with 16 seconds remaining for Minnesota to tie it up.
