GAME NIGHT:
The Carolina Hurricanes finish a two-game road trip with an afternoon game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Mellon Arena. The Hurricanes saw a three-game winning streak end Friday night with their 3-2 overtime loss at Buffalo. This is the third game of a five-game homestand for the Penguins.

CAROLINA NOTES:
Hurricanes rookie forward Erik Cole tallied his sixth goal of the season against the Buffalo Sabres Friday night in his first NHL game near his hometown and is fifth among all rookies in scoring with 16 points (6g, 10a). The Oswego, NY native leads all rookies and is sixth in the NHL in hits this season with 107. Cole is fourth among rookies in assists (10) and tied for fifth in goals (6).

CAROLINA / PITTSBURGH SERIES:
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Penguins meet for the second of four matchups this season, the first in Pittsburgh. The two teams tied 2-2 on Nov. 6 in Raleigh on a late Jeff O’Neill goal. The Hurricanes won last year’s season series 3-1-0. Carolina won both meetings in Pittsburgh, defeating the Penguins 3-2 on Oct. 18 and 3-1 on Nov. 22. O’Neill led all scorers in last year’s season series with six points (2g, 4a) in four games. The Hurricanes franchise is 33-41-9-0 all-time against Pittsburgh, including a 19-20-4-0 record at home and a 14-21-5-0 record on the road.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS NOTES:
Pittsburgh has lost two straight at home after dropping a 5-2 home loss to Minnesota Friday night. Prior to this streak, the Penguins had a season-high four-game unbeaten streak. Center Robert Lang has a five-game assist streak (7 assists) and a six-game point streak (12/4-14: 2g, 7a). The Penguins’ power play is next to last in the league at 9.8 percent and is tied for the league lead with five shorthanded goals allowed. The penalty kill ranks 15th at 85.5 percent.
