GAME NIGHT

The defending Eastern Conference champion Carolina Hurricanes travel to Ottawa to take on the Senators for the first time this season at Corel Centre. The game marks the second half of Carolina’s second of 19 sets of back-to-back games this season. Heading into Tuesday night’s game, Carolina was 1-1-0-0 in back-to-back games this season, with a 1-0-0-0 record in the first half and a 0-1-0-0 record in the second half of back-to-back sets. The Hurricanes played 15 sets of back-to-back games in 2001-02 and compiled a 12-11-5-2 record in those games. Carolina was 4-7-4-0 in the first games and 8-4-1-2 in the second games.

CAROLINA NOTES
Rod Brind’Amour tallied goals in each of the Hurricanes first three games this season and was tied for second on the team in scoring with five points (4g, 1a) heading into Tuesday night’s game in New York. He scored Carolina’s first shorthanded goal of the season on Oct. 19 against New Jersey (10/19). Brind’Amour notched his first multi-point night of the season with a goal and an assist against Atlanta on Oct. 11. The 32-year-old center had 11 multi-point games for the Hurricanes in 2001-02, and was fourth on the team in scoring with 55 points (23g, 32a). Brind’Amour, who was second in the league in faceoff percentage in 2001-02 (59.2%), won 85-of-133 (63.9%) of his faceoffs through six games this season.

CAROLINA / OTTAWA NOTES
The Hurricanes and the Senators meet for the first of four matchups this season. The Senators were unbeaten against Carolina last season, winning the season series 3-0-1. Ottawa was 1-0-1 at home in 2001-02, playing to a 1-1 tie on Nov. 15 and defeating Carolina 4-3 on April 2. The Senators won both games in Raleigh, defeating the Hurricanes 6-2 on Oct. 9 and 5-1 on Dec. 18. Marian Hossa was the leading scorer against Carolina last season with six points (3g, 3a) in four games. Ron Francis led all Hurricanes scorers with five points (0g, 5a). Carolina leads the all-time regular season series with Ottawa 28-14-6, including a 16-5-2 mark at home and a 12-9-4 record in Ottawa.

SENATORS NOTES
Senators netminder Patrick Lalime was fourth in the league in goals against average (1.34) and fourth in the league in save percentage (.943) heading into Tuesday night’s National Hockey League action. The Senators do not play a game between Tuesday, Oct. 15 against Phoenix and Wednesday night’s game against Carolina, a span that includes seven off days. The Hurricanes play three games during that time.
