GAME NIGHT
The Carolina Hurricanes play the sixth of eight consecutive games on the road as they take on the Montreal Canadiens at Molson Centre. The Hurricanes are 2-3 during the road stretch after defeating the Northeast Division-leading Boston Bruins 6-2 at FleetCenter on Thursday. The Hurricanes fell to Toronto 4-1 on Monday night. Carolina opened the road stretch prior to the Olympic Break, defeating Anaheim and falling at Los Angeles and San Jose. Carolina will not play a home game between Feb. 5 and March 8, a span of 31 days. After Montreal, Carolina will play games at Chicago and Pittsburgh before returning to the Entertainment & Sports Arena on March 8 against Washington.

The win again Boston was Carolina’s third in the last 14 games. Carolina currently sits in first place in the Southeast Division, leading the second-place Washington Capitals by eight points. Washington plays Ottawa at Corel Centre on Saturday night.

CAROLINA NOTES
Hurricanes captain Ron Francis had his 12th multi-point game of the season on Thursday in Boston, collecting a goal and three assists. It was his third four-point effort of the season. Francis scored a pair of goals and added two assists at Minnesota on Oct. 24, and notched a goal and three assists against Vancouver on Jan. 21. Francis has 16 points (5g, 11a) in the last 12 games and seven points (3g, 4a) in the last four games. He was ninth in the NHL in points (58), fifth in assists (39) and first in power-play points (31) and power-play assists (23) through games of Feb. 28.

CAROLINA INJURY UPDATE
Forward Tommy Westlund missed the game at Boston (2/28) with a back injury. He was placed on Injured Reserve on Feb. 9 retroactive to Jan. 18.

CAROLINA / MONTREAL NOTES
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Montreal Canadiens meet on Saturday for the second of four matchups this season. The two meet twice more during the month of March, a home-and-home series on March 16 in Montreal and March 18 in Raleigh. Carolina and Montreal played to a 1-1 tie in their first matchup this season at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, as defenseman Glen Wesley scored the Hurricanes’ lone goal and Arturs Irbe stopped 19 of 20 shots. The Canadiens won three of the four games between the two teams last season, with the Hurricanes’ only win coming in overtime on Jan. 16 in Montreal. Ron Francis (1g, 3a) and Josef Vasicek (1g, 3a) were Carolina’s leading scorers against the Canadiens last season, tallying four points each. The Canadiens lead the all-time regular season series 81-44-17 and are 35-28-10 on the road and 46-15-7-1 against the Hurricanes franchise at home.

MONTREAL NOTES
The Montreal Canadiens are currently tied for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with the New York Rangers (61 points), but have played one less game than New York. Montreal earned 3-2 victory against Chicago in its first game back after the Olympic Break. Canadiens goaltender Jose Theodore is second in the league in save percentage at .926 and tied for fifth in the league in goals against average at 2.19.
