GAME NIGHT
The Carolina Hurricanes play the fifth of eight consecutive games on the road as they take on the Boston Bruins at the Fleet Center. The Hurricanes are 1-3 during the road stretch after falling to Toronto 4-1 on Monday night. Carolina opened the road stretch prior to the Olympic Break, defeating Anaheim and falling at Los Angeles and San Jose. Carolina will not play a home game between Feb. 5 and March 8, a span of 31 days. After Boston, Carolina will play games at Montreal, Chicago and Pittsburgh before returning to the Entertainment & Sports Arena on March 8 against Washington.

Three members of the Carolina Hurricanes participated in the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Hurricanes netminder Arturs Irbe made his Olympic debut for Latvia against Germany on Feb. 12. Germany defeated Latvia 4-1 in the game, eliminating the Latvians from final round contention. Hurricanes forward Sami Kapanen played four games for Finland, registering one goal and two assists. Goaltender Tom Barrasso started one game in net for the United States, finishing the tournament with a record of 1-0-0, a goals against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .923.

CAROLINA NOTES
The Hurricanes have won just once in their last five games and twice in their last 13 games. Carolina currently sits in first place in the Southeast Division, leading the second-place Washington Capitals by six points. Washington plays San Jose at the MCI Center Thursday night.

CAROLINA INJURY UPDATE
Forward Tommy Westlund missed the game at Toronto (2/26) with a back injury. He was placed on Injured Reserve on Feb. 9 retroactive to Jan. 18.

CAROLINA / BOSTON NOTES
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins meet for the second of four games this season. The two teams will meet one more time in Raleigh (March 26 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena) and in Boston (March 30). The Bruins won the first matchup with the Hurricanes this season, spoiling a historic night at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, as Ron Francis scored his 500th career NHL goal. Carolina hasn’t lost a season series to the Bruins since the 1995-96 season. Since then, the Hurricanes are 14-9-2-0 against Boston. Carolina trails the all-time series 51-78-14-0, including a 31-33-7-0 mark at home and a 20-45-7-0 record in Boston.

BOSTON NOTES
The Boston Bruins enter Thursday’s game against Carolina in first place in the Northeast Division and just one point behind Philadelphia for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Bruins center Joe Thornton is third in the league in scoring, trailing league leader Jarome Iginla by three points. Boston is 19-6-1-4 at FleetCenter this season – the best home record in the Eastern Conference.
