Hockey Canada today announced that Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters has been named an assistant coach for Team Canada in the upcoming 2015 IIHF World Championship.

Todd McLellan, who has served as head coach of the San Jose Sharks for the last seven seasons, was named the bench boss for Canada’s national men’s team. Peters joins Peter DeBoer, who most recently served as head coach of the New Jersey Devils, and Jay Woodcroft, assistant coach of the San Jose Sharks, as assistants behind the bench.

In June 2014, Hurricanes General Manager Ron Francis introduced Peters as the 13th head coach in franchise history and fourth since the Hurricanes’ arrival in North Carolina in 1997. In his first season as bench boss, Peters’ club totaled a 30-41-11 record and 71 points.

The 2015 IIHF World Championship is slated to take place from May 1-17 in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic. Justin Faulk (USA), Elias Lindholm (Sweden), Victor Rask (Sweden) and Anton Khudobin (Russia) will represent their respective countries in the annual tournament, and Michal Jordan was invited to the Czech Republic’s camp.
